Another Phenomenal Gluten Free Bread By Canyon Bakehouse: Deli Rye Style

Through my years of living gluten free, I’ve searched high and low for the best gluten free breads out there. While I’ve found my go to brands for everyday meals, I always keep my eyes peeled for more options. Although I’d heard the name Canyon Bakehouse before I’d never seen any of their products in my local stores. Hearing more and more fantastic things about them, I was intrigued to see what kinds of products they offer, so I finally decided to check out their website. Oh my was I ever glad that I did too. Here I found two gluten free breads that I’d never seen gluten free before, their Rosemary and Thyme Foccacia and Deli Style Rye.

Moments later, a few products were on their way to my house and I have to admit I was chomping at the bit waiting for them. At first glance, their products were so soft and squishy, just like non-gluten free bread feels! But along with their squishy factor, I noticed that there wasn’t any crumbling apart among the loaves, which is certainly a pleasant site to see since many gluten free breads tend to be extremely delicate. Once loving focaccia bread in my Panera days, I just had to try that one first, check out my thoughts and recipe idea here for Canyon Bakehouse’s Gluten Free Rosemary and Thyme Focaccia.

Next on the weekly menu was Canyon Bakehouse’s Deli Style Rye Bread. Years back, my father would always purchase Beefsteak Rye Bread, you know the long slices of light brown bread, all wrapped up in the package with the blue label. It was the perfect bread for grilled cheese or a simple breakfast of buttered toast. But along with many others, when I went gluten free this one got the boot too. I’m happy to report that I’ve now welcomed rye bread, but gluten free this time, back into my diet with open arms!

Whenever I used to purchase bread, I always gave the loaf a little squeeze to see how soft it was. It was a great test and just instantly made you imagine all of the delicious sandwiches you’d enjoy with the deliciously soft bread. Now when I buy gluten free bread, I first keep my fingers crossed that my store has it in stock since as of late they haven’t, but I no longer employ the squeeze, test since your typical gluten free bread is either very brittle to the touch and a squeeze may demolish it or it’s kept in the frozen section where a squeeze isn’t too telling.

Thankfully though, I’m happy to report that thanks to Canyon Bakehouse, we now can enjoy some soft and squishy gluten free bread too! When I first received their rye bread, I gave the loaf a double take just to make sure that it was indeed gluten free since its incredibly light and soft texture was so uncharacteristic of your typical gluten free bread. Now what about the taste? The taste was divine, just how I remembered rye bread to be. I first tried it out with a quick toast and thin layer of gluten free butter, just how I used to enjoy it years ago for breakfast. After my first bite I couldn’t help but imagine all of the different ways I could enjoy this bread, from grilled cheese and blts to homemade french dip sandwiches and caprese paninis. The possibilities are endless!

So besides the delectable texture and flavor, there’s more good news on this product. With any of Canyon Bakehouse’s breads, no heating is necessary to enjoy them, you can actually enjoy the slices right from the bag! This is a huge departure from most gluten free bread options out there which typically require toasting to even be edible, so definitely a big plus for Canyon Bakehouse. As with most gluten free products though, they do recommend if the products aren’t consumed within a short period of time to freeze them to keep them fresh. If you have to freeze, just take your slices out a little bit ahead of time to defrost and you’re good to go!

All together, Canyon Bakehouse has done it again in my book. From their gluten free focaccia to their rye bread and many others too (check all of their gluten free products out here), it’s just so nice to be able to enjoy different varieties of breads again. My only wish is that I’d see their products in my local stores soon, since I’m not totally sold on buying my cabinet staples online. I’m crossing my fingers (and toes too) that their availability grows to my area soon since I’ve absolutely fallen for Canyon Bakehouse’s gluten free line!

Sincerely,

Lindsay
