I’ll be honest, most of the time during my pregnancy being gluten free wasn’t too difficult. Of course there were plenty of moments where I couldn’t seem to get a specific craving out of my head and couldn’t necessarily satisfy it either but that was to be expected. There were also plenty of moments that my cravings were completely doable and were for things that I could eat in a second. Like everyone else’s pregnancies though mine was no different, scattered throughout there were cravings for non-gluten free items that, no matter what I would do, just wouldn’t disappear. Two in particular stand out at the moment, bagels and donuts, both of which were extremely off limits in my diet.
Thankfully, not too far into my pregnancy, I discovered Katz Gluten Free. As many of you probably know by now I am one of their biggest fans and seem to really love any and all of the products that I’ve tried, from their chocolate frosted donuts to their sprinkle cookies, all of them seem to be winners. They do a fantastic job producing gluten free options of so many non-gluten free pastries, including the infamous bagel and donut. Their bagels and donuts got me through some of my hungriest gluten free pregnancy days and let’s face it some non-pregnant days as well too. While I’ve already introduced you to Katz’s gluten free Chocolate Buns, Sprinkle Cookies, Chocolate Frosted Cupcakes, Everything Bagels, and Chocolate Frosted Donuts, I’ve yet to show you their Custard Filled Powdered Donuts.
Okay I know donuts are intended to be a sweet breakfast but I just love how you can enjoy these as a satisfying breakfast treat or dessert, pregnant or not, they’re that delicious. As always, their Custard Powdered Donuts are gluten free, dairy free, nut free, and soy free, making them a happy substitution for many an allergy free individual! Once you receive your donuts, you pop them into the freezer for storage for an extended period of time and when you’re ready to enjoy one, just pull it out and defrost it at room temperature for a few minutes and you’re good to go. Alright alright, now onto the actual donut itself.
For $5.99, you get four large powdered donut holes, per package, stuffed to the gills with cream colored custard. After just one bite I was transported back to my days in college where my friend and I would have our intense biochemistry study sessions on the weekends and we’d stop on occasion at Dunkin Donuts first, grab some caramel lattes and powdered custard donuts, and start our long day off on a sweet note/sugar high. While I’m no longer enjoying the gluten filled kind from Dunkin Donuts, Katz’s gluten free version is about as close as I’ll ever get and fills that craving perfectly. The donut side of things is light and not too dense, but is definitely more of a cake consistency. The custard stuffed inside tastes just like those from Dunkin Donuts, more of a cream colored boston creme than a vanilla creme. Each bite is filled with just the right amount of custard to donut and the flavor combination of the two is AMAZING!!!
Well Katz has done it again in my book, giving us a deliciously sweet start to our day or sweet finish to our dinner, either way making me so happy that I’d found them. Indulging in their treats here and there has certainly made me feel a bit less out of the ordinary while living the gluten free life. They offer so many products that you just can’t find yet in the gluten free world and I for one am so grateful that they do. My only hope is that I’ll see Katz products floating around in my local Shop Rite, Wegmans, and Whole Foods so I can grab some goodies, with ease, anytime I want. Fingers crossed!
